# Planner for Mac

Planner for Mac puts your planner in its own window and adds what a browser tab can't, like a study timer in the menu bar and quick add from any app.

[Download for Mac](https://www.severnplanner.com/mac/Severn-Planner.dmg). Free, for macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The first time you open it, macOS asks you to allow it once.

## What it adds

### Study timer in the menu bar

The time left shows in the menu bar, where you can start, pause, or end a session and pick one of your presets without opening Planner. You can also keep a small floating timer on top of your other windows.

### Widgets

Add the Due Today, Schedule, Study Timer and Streak widgets to your desktop or Notification Center. The Streak widget turns orange once today counts.

### Notifications with buttons

Planner reminds you before work is due and before each class. You can mark an assignment done or snooze it from the notification. After an exam topic review, click Got it or Still shaky right there, and Shaky gets another pass.

### Quick add from anywhere

Press Control-Option-Space in any app, type something like "Lab report Friday Chemistry 45m", and press Return.

### Add from other apps

Share a page from Safari, send selected text from the Services menu, or drop a PDF on the Dock icon to attach it to an assignment.

### Staying focused

Pick apps to hide while a focus timer runs. If you step away, the timer pauses, and when you get back it asks whether to count the time you were gone.

### Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts

Search for assignments in Spotlight. Ask Siri what's due, start your next study session, or say "Mark Run done in Severn Planner" to tick off a goal.

### Calendar and Reminders

Planner can copy your assignments into Apple Calendar or Reminders. This stays off until you turn it on.

## Installing it

1. Download and open Severn-Planner.dmg.
2. Drag Severn Planner into the Applications folder.
3. Open it from Applications. The first time, macOS says Apple could not verify it. Click Done.
4. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down, click Open Anyway next to Severn Planner, and confirm.
5. Sign in with your Planner account, and your classes and assignments are already there.

### Why the warning?

Planner for Mac is a free student project, so it isn't in Apple's paid developer program and macOS can't check who made it. You only have to allow it once. After that the app updates itself, and it only installs updates signed by Planner.

## More details

### School sync

Assignments and grades from your school still come in through the Planner browser extension, so keep it installed. The Mac app signs in to the same account, and everything shows up in both.

### Your data

The Mac app runs the same Planner as the website, with the same encryption. Your Mac makes the notifications, widgets, and Spotlight results itself. For the rest, see the [privacy policy](https://www.severnplanner.com/privacy).

### Removing it

Quit Planner, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. Your planner stays in your account.
